Glucovance Tablets 250 MG, 500 MG contains very useful effective medicines like Glibenclamide and Metformin in it. Glibenclamide is an oral hypoglycemic agent which used in the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes. While Meformin is another oral biguanide anti diabetic agent. Metformin elevated blood glucose concentration in diabetic patients. But it does not increase insulin secretion.

Glucovance Tablets Uses

Glucovance Tablets 250 MG, 500 MG uses when diet and exercise alone has not able to control your blood sugar levels. It can be given on its own. However, sometimes it is given with other medicine for diabetes or with insulin. In patients who are overweight, long term use of Glucovance Tab also helps to lower the risk of any problems related to diabetes.

Glucovance Tablets Dosage

Always take Glucovance Tablet exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

How To Use Glucovance

  • Take with or just after food. This lowers the chance of getting an upset stomach.
  • ACE inhibitors (such as captopril, ramipril, lisinopril) used for heart problems and high blood pressure
  • Beta blockers (such as atenolo) used for high blood pressure
  • Other medicine for high blood pressure (such as clonidine , reserpine guanethidine, diazoxide )
  • Other anti diabetic medicines (such as insulin , guar)
  • NSAID (such as aspirin) used to treat pain and inflammation
  • MAOI inhibitors (such as moclobemide ) used to treat depression
  • Antibiotics known as tetracyclines (such as oxytetracycline)
  • Lipid regulating medicines (such as clofibrate and nicotine acid derivatives ) used mainly to treat raised cholesterol.
  • Cytoxic medicines (such as syclophospharmaide) used mainly to treat cancer.
  • Oestrogen and progesterone (female) hormones (such as the pill hormone replacement therapy )
  • Glucagon used to control hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar).
  • Thyroid hormones (such as thyroxine sodium ) used in the active thyroid glands.
  • Antipsychotic medicines (such as chlopromazine ) used in the treatment of schizophrenia.
  • H2 blockers (such as cimetidine) used to heal stomach ulcers.
  • Warfarin, dicumarol and phenprocoumone used to thin the blood .
  • Adrenaline and noradrenaline used to treat conditions such as allergic reactions , heart attack and low blood pressure.

Taking Glucovance Tab With Food And Drink

Do not drink alcohol or take medicine containing alcohol while taking Glucovance.

Glucovance Use During Pregnancy And Breast Feeding

Do not take Glucovance medicine if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant or are breast feeding.

Glucovance Effects On Driving And Using Machines

Do not or use any tools or machines when your blood sugar levels is low (sometimes called hypo). Signs including feeling faint, confused and sweaty. This can happen if Glucovance is taken with other diabetic medicines.

Glucovance Side Effects

Like all medicines Glucovance Side Effects are as under, although not everybody gets them. But if you notice any of the effects while using the medicine you must immediately discuss it with your doctor who may further decide about the medicine uses.

If you get any of the following very rare side effects, stop Glucovance Use and see you doctor immediately;

  • Unexpected weight loss
  • Feeling very sick or being very sick(vomiting)
  • Very fast breathing which you cannot stop
  • Stomach pains or feeling cold
  • Muscle pains
  • Clouding of consciousness

This may mean you have something called diabetic ketoacidosis or lactic acidosis. These can be signs of serious problems with your diabetes. If this happens see a doctor as you will need treatment straight away.

Other Glucovance Side Effects

Very common (affects more than 1 in 10 people)

  • Upset stomach
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Being sick(vomiting)
  • Diarrhoea
  • Stomach ache
  • Loss of appetite

These Glucovance side effects are most likely to happen at the start of treatment . They usually last for a short time. It helps to take the dose with or after a meal.

Common (affects more than 1 in 100 people)

  • Taste of metal in your mouth.

Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10, 000 people)

Skin rash (including rednes , itching , hives).

Glucovance Dosage For Adults And The Elderly

  • The usual starting Glucovance dosage is one two 500 mg tablets or one 850 mg tablet a day. Which is gradually increased until the right Glucovance Dosage is found for you.
  • Do not take more than a total of six 500 mg tablets or three 850 mg tablets in one day.
  • In most cases the symptoms can eventually with three 500 mg tablets or two 850 mg tablets a day
  • The daily Glucovance dosage should divided into two or three doses.

Glucovance Dosage For Children

It is contraindicated for children. So no Glucovance Dosage instructions are available. However, the doctor may finally decide the medicine uses for the children.

Glucovance Overdosage

Talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away you take Glucovance Over Dosage. The following effects may happen:

  • Unexpected weight loss
  • Feeling very sick or being very sick
  • Very fast breathing which you cannot stop
  • Stomach pains or feeling cold.

You may have something called lactic acidosis. The doctor may use method called haemodialysis to remove the extra lactate and Glucovance from your body. So, most importantly, you must visit the near hospital or immediately contact your doctor in case of any medicine overdosage.

Glucovance Contraindications

Do not take Glucovance tablets if:

  • You are allergic (hypersensitive ) to Glucovance or nay of the other ingredients in these tablets. An allergic reaction can include a rash, itching or shortness of breath.
  • You have recently had a heart attack or any other heart problems.
  • Have severe circulation problems or difficulty in breathing.
  • You have liver or kidney problems.
  • Have recently had a severe infection, injury or trauma (shock).
  • You are dehydrated.
  • You are a heavy drinker of alcohol (more than 21 units a week for a man or 14 units a week for a woman). A unit is equivalent to a small glass of wine, one shot or half a pint of beer.
  • Have an illness that started suddenly, such as a cold or the flu.
  • You have ever suffered a loss of consciousness due to a diabetic coma or pre coma.
  • You are on very low calorie diet (less than 1000 calories per day).
  • Pregnant , planning to get pregnant or are breast feeding .

Operations Or Test During Glucovance Use

The amount of sugar in your blood or urine should be checker regularly. Your doctor will also check your kidneys are working properly. This should be done at least once a year (more often if you are elderly or have kidney problems. If you are going to have an X ray tell your doctor you are taking Glucovance 250MG, 500MG . If this involves having a dye injected , you must stop taking Glucovance. You must not start to take Glucovance again for 48 hours after the X ray. And only after your doctor has checked that your kidneys are working properly.

If you are going to have an operation that needs a general anaesthetic, tell your doctor you are taking Glucovance before the operation. You doctor may stop you taking Glucovance for a couple of days before and after the operation. The amount of vitamin B 12 in your body should also be checked regularly.

Glucovance Drug Interactions

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicine including medicine obtained without a prescription. In particular tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following:

  • Steroids (such as hydrocortisone, betamethasone, prednisolone) used to treat inflammatory and allergic disorder
  • Water tablets (diuretics such as furosemide, bendroflumethiazide)

Glucovance Storage Instructions

Firstly, you must store the drug between 30 C temperature. Secondly, you must remember always to keep the medicine out of the reach of the children. Also, protect the medications from sun light and heat and moisture. Lastly, you must read the glucovance packing for its expiry date which always printed on the packing. If the product is expired you must not use the medicine because it may create threats to your life.
