After the independence of Pakistan in 1947 there were only a few pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan. But in the last few decades now the industry has established well and there are a total of 650 local as well as multinational pharma companies currently working in different cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Multan, Hattar Haripur, Sialkot and other major big cities of Pakistan. Most importantly, the total revenue generated by all of these companies in year 2020 is nearly PKR 453.5 billion. Which reached to a total of 510 billion in year 2021. And till January 2022 the total revenue generated by these Pakistan Pharmaceutical Companies reached to a total of PKR 370 billions. Meanwhile the local companies has gather the 2/3rd of the total revenue while the multinational companies have collect the other 1/3rd revenue.

Moreover when we take a close look at the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan they collect a total of 43% revenue. And best top 20 companies get a total of 67% of revenue. While the 90% revenue is collected by the top 50 pharmaceutical companies currently working in Pakistan belongs to all cities. There are a total of 800 large formulation plants working currently in different cities now. And these operate by the 25 different multinational groups which import the raw materials from abroad.
