 Suspension Syrup:

Dry powder suspension 90 mg/0.6 ml (ampicillin trihydrate – cloxacillin sodium) contains 60 mg ampicillin trihydrate B.P and 250 mg cloxacillin sodium B.P.

 Neonatal Drops:

Dry power suspension 90 mg/0.6 ml contains 60 mg ampicillin trihydrate – cloxacillin sodium) contains 125 mg ampicillin trihydrate B.P and 125 mg cloxacillin sodium B.P

Syrup:

How To Manage Ampicillin 500MG Ampiclox Dosage?

Ampiclox Tablets Capsules Syrup Injection Suspension Dosage For Adults And Elderly

• Oral Dose :        Tablets Capsules Syrup 1 G to 2 G every 6 years
• I.M. Inj    :          Injection 500 MG to 1 G every 4 to 6 hours
• I.V. Inj     :          Injection 500 MG to 1 G every 4 to 6 hours

However, the dose can be adjusted according to the severity of an individual patient by the doctor. Dosage For Children From 2 to 5 Years Age

• Oral Dose          :          Half adult dose, 5 ML to 10 ML syrup every 6 hours
• Injectable          :          Half adult dose, 250 mg every 8 hours.

Dose For New Born Upto 2 Years

• Drops                               :          0.6 ml of reconstituted suspension every 4 hours. Administer 0/5 to 1 hour prior to feeding
• Injection                           :           One quarter adult dose, 75 mg every 8 hours

Dosage In Renal Impairment

In cases of renal failure, the dosage should be adapted with the following: Creatinine clearance greater than 50 ml/min: normal dose according to indication. Creatinine clearance between 50 and 10 ml/min:

• Dosage (oral or parenteral administration) initial dose: Normal dose(according to indication).
• The Dosage (oral or parenteral administration) maintenance : There times daily. Creatinine clearance below 10 mg/min:

Oral Route It should be administered 0.5 to 1 h before meals. Parenteral  Route: Administer by slow L.V. inj (3 to 4 minutes).Ampiclox may also be added to infusion fluids (except for aminoglycosides, amino acid solutions, fat emulsions and blood), and can, therefore, be administered simultaneously with these forms of treatment or injected, suitably diluted, into the drug tube over a period of 3 to 4 minutes.

Contraindications To The Medicine

Probenecid decreased the renal tubular excretion of this medicine. Furthermore, Concurrent use of the drug with this may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of ampiclox. In common with other antibiotics, it may affect the gut flora , leading to lower oestrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives. On the other hand, Sulphonamides drug and acetylsalicylic acid inhibit serum protein binding of cloxacillinin vitro. Meanwhile, Bacteriostatic medicines may interfere with the bactericidal action of this medication. So, Concurrent use of allopurinol during treatment with this can increase the likelihood of allergic skin reactions.

Ampiclox In Pregnancy And Lactation

Adequate human date on use during pregnancy are available. However, animal studies have not identified any risk to pregnancy or  embryo-foetal development during pregnancy.

Blood And Lymphatic System Disorders

• Hemolytic
• Anemia
• Leucopenia
• Thrombocytopenia
• Agranulocytosis.

Immune System Disorders

• Anaphylaxis and other hypersensitivity reactions.
• Skin disorders and interstitial nephritis have been reported as hypersensitivity reactions.

Most importantly, If any hypersensitivity reaction occurs the treatment should be discontinued.

Gastrointestinal Disorders

• Common:           Diarrhoea and nausea
• Uncommon:       Vomiting
• Very Rare:         Pseudomembranous colitis and haemorrhagic colitis, Haepato biliary disorders
• Very Rare:          Hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice. A moderate and transient increase in transaminases.

Skin And Subcutaneous Tissue Disorder

• Common:           Skin rash, urticaria and pruritus

On the other hand, The incidence of skin rash, pruritus and urticaria is higher in patients suffering form infectious mononucleosis and acute or chronic leukemia of lymphoid origin.
